Australian Government Jobs Hub

The current COVID-19 global pandemic has led to hundreds, if not thousands, out of work people Australia-wide. The 23rd April 2020 data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in conjunction with the Australian Taxation Office, reveals that at least 6% of workers have lost their job over the past month, with the accommodation, food, arts and recreation industries being the most impacted due to the coronavirus. In this rapidly changing job market, the Australian Government has been making unprecedented decisions to support businesses and those Australians looking for work.

Whilst many businesses have been adversely affected by COVID-19 and have significantly reduced their workforce, there are some areas of the economy that have an increased demand for workers. As a variety of businesses and organisations are still operating and have multiple jobs on offer, the Australian Federal Government (AFG) has launched an online portal that lists all of the job opportunities in one place – the Jobs Hub.

On the website (https://www.dese.gov.au/covid-19/jobs-hub), the AFG has collated vacancies from a wide range of industries that have all reported increased demand as a result of the coronavirus. Typical jobs here include roles in supermarkets, mining, manufacturing, agriculture, health and aged care, transport and logistics, and of course, government services. These are all critical jobs that contribute to keeping the economy going and keeping as many Australians in work as possible. There are three categories that can assist job seekers and the team at Public Service Resumes have explored them all in order to provide you with more guidance. These are;

  • Find employers hiring now

    The list here shows some of the organisations who are currently seeking employees and can be filtered by region and industry. When searching in each region, there is a comprehensive list of a wide range of employers and positions they currently have available. If you are seeking for a specific industry, you can also narrow your search by selecting from one of the ten categories available.

    Once you click on each employer, it takes you directly to that specific employer’s job site, which then lists all of the positions they have available at their company.

  • Search jobs by location

    If you are more interested and/or driven by data, then this is the link for you. Here, you will find a comprehensive overview of the latest information on jobs in demand across multiple locations Australia-wide. You can customise your search by selecting the location, which then provides a colourful graph displaying the top ten online job advertisements over the past week.

    Once you click on each industry category, you are provided with a link to the current jobs available.

  • Australian government jobs

    This search option is very similar to the first but is specific to government jobs as the title indicates. This comprehensive list provides individual job boards for the Australian, State and Territory and local governments, meaning it’s easier to locate what is available and where.

    As you click on each area, it takes you direct to the sections specific site and then lists all of the jobs currently available to apply for.
